Former Chairman of ELCOT and IT Secretary, Govt. of Tamil Nadu
Mr Vivek Harinarain joined the IAS in 1980 – TN Cadre and started his career as Sub-Collector, Hosur; he went on and served in various assignments in the State Government and Government of India including District Collector Thanjavur, Ministry of Commerce (GOI) and Secretary Information Technology (Govt. of Tamil Nadu). During his tenure software exports from Tamil Nadu grew from INR 1900 crores in 2001 to over INR 10000 crores in 2005.
Vivek was the Commissioner-in-Charge for Nagapattinam when on December 26, 2004 the Tsunami struck the shores of India. Nagapattinam with over 6000 deaths reported was referred to as the “Ground Zero” of Tsunami. Within a few hours, with his team of officials he personally undertook rescue, relief and rehabilitation operations continuously day and night in the most affected areas even at the point of personal risk for months.
He retired voluntarily from the IAS in 2007 and worked as a Principal Consultant/MD & CEO in the Infrastructure domain and Education sector. In 2015 launched a new journey as an entrepreneur and started a niche consulting firm Tennex Consulting in employability enhancement/ skilling in keeping with the national initiatives of Skill India, Make in India, and Start up India.
Vivek is a Post Graduate from the Lucknow University besides having done his Masters in Social Policy and Planning from the London School of Economics.
